I had a nice night: did some shopping, primped, then dawdled in Bryant Park munching on a hamburger and discussing Blackadder with a fave person-who-talks-funnyBrit. I got home a little late for a run, but in the end went anyhow, so I watched the sky turn dark from the reservoir. It's a nice little 4.75mi run, all dirt and flat; just what the doctor ordered for those with knee problems. I was sore (probably from the morning's workout) when I got home, so I took a bath with the spa pack I got for Christmas and finished off Wide Sargasso Sea. Short review: interesting, but not all that and a bag of cheddar, although I suspect I missed some of what was going on. I'm still not a bath person, although I kind of liked watching the flower petals dissolve. Then a fun conversation with my favorite couple.

Maybe I'm being overly conscientious, but I've decided that even though I'll be home all day tomorrow, I'm still going to stick to my original plan and fly to Chicago in the evening: my boss gave me two days off from work this week to study and by golly, I will. and not just bc if I went to Chicago early, and failed, I'd always wonder if I might've passed if I hadn't.

Speaking of which, back to the books I go. Toodles.

This is what happens when I get on the phone, instead of intently watching my breakfast... the bun started as white. oops.

On the plus side, bc the paper fused with the bun, I've verified that everything, even paper, tastes better with hot sauce. Um.

Oh, and speaking of favorite foods, Zagat released its scores for fast food today. I guess they didn't include In'n Out in the survey. Can't say I agree with their assessments: Cracker Barrel is WAY better than Outback. And I need to try Panera and Chick-fil-A and Sonic and go back to Red Robin. In fact, I would really like a burger for lunch. *le sighs*

I think it's so funny that both Prof. Bainbridge and Eugene Volokh were/are Anita Blake fans. The former has a post discussing law in the Blakeiverse among others. The funniest part for me was that I've read the books so often, I sort of knew that Addison v. Clark was a law case, but I'd forgotten it was fictional. The topic was also very timely for me, bc with last week being tv preview week or whatever it's called, and the Sarah Connor Chronicles trailer being released, and more announcements re: the Charlaine Harris tv show, I've been pondering my fantasy Anita Blake tv show a lot and contemplating the underpinnings of her univese. Particularly why they have some of the problems they do. In that reality, they've always had vampires and people have known about them for a long time: one of the books talks about how the revolutionaries liked the guillotine bc it would work on mortals and vampires alike. On the other hand, at the time of the books, there's clearly been an explosion of vampirism and human issues with such.

Of course, after reading that post, I came across his earlier link to a post someone made about Disney making fun of Anita Blake. "vampire astronaut who constantly battles with some werewolf congressman or something." Indeed.

Oh, and they've come out with a companion encyclopedia-ish book to the series: I might think that was cool, except that it reminds me that maybe reading each of the first 10 books a dozen times each is a little obsessive.

All of this is good timing of course bc the new Anita Blake comes out in 11 days, which is just after the exam. Unfortunately, it sounds like it picks up the dangling plot from Incubus Dreams. Excerpts full of spelling and grammar issues here. Apparently Anita has switched from her old Browning Hi-Power to a H&K P200. I'm sure this means something to the gun fans on my list. I just wonder if it has bigger bullets or something.

Sadly, the NYPL hasn't ordered their copies yet, which means I can't reserve it yet. Which is just as well: if libraries had frequent borrower programs, I'd totally have a platinum membership. Which would be nice if I could reserve more than the usual 15 books, since I'm maxed out. albeit bc I have my name down for three books on photographing megafauna that the library seems to have lost.

In the meantime, I highly recommend the Sarah Connor Chronicles trailer: Summer Glau kicks ass!

I can post this now that all the other participants are at the event.

Say you were at a conference at a good hotel that serves breakfast. Which would you be more delighted to see? chocolate chip cookies or the same gojiberry muffins you had last time you saw the provider, that you exclaimed over at the time, possibly bc said provider whipped them up while you were asleep and they were fresh out of the oven.

I'm also debating between trying S-B's Speedy Nibby Cookie recipe, which requires a food processor and is heretofore untested in Kate's kitchen, or going with my usual Kit's Awesome Gingersnaps.

NB - I might still might go with the muffins, bc the cleanup is faster: even with the silpat mat, the cookie pans always seem a little greasy and they don't fit in my sink, which makes them hard to maneuver, or my dishwasher/drying rack, which makes it irriating to dry them. Same goes for the cooling racks. This is why I made endless rounds of muffins, not cookies.

Also, I'm very tired.

Short-waisted curvy gals can't really carry concealed, can they.

Once again, I have a lot more sympathy for Anita's bitchiness when her harnesses get cut off her in the emergency room.

And, it's just as well I decided (before I started) to leave all my toys home.

I'm now convinced that OkCupid really works: in flipping through it, I've been matched with 3 different LJ friends. woohoo!

The 22yo girls on JDate all look exactly the same. E.gads. I almost missed my sister's picture bc my eyes were starting to glaze over.

It's so funny to see how she describes herself. Actually, it's pretty close to mine :o) although I don't mention clean energy (sna?) or guitars. Or adventure racing. Anyhoo, she describes herself as a political conservative and says nothing I consider dodgy, so I'll have to give her props (and suggestions) next time I chat with her. HAHAHA.

Edit: *rueful thought* She mentioned the other day that she has something she wants to discuss when I'm feeling "receptive". I wonder if she wants to critique MY JDate profile, which is probably bitchy as all heck to anyone who doesn't know me.

Edit2: It seems like a lot of lesbians don't put their pictures on JDate, but the ones who do are cute! Maybe I've been doing this all wrong...
