I think it's so funny that both Prof. Bainbridge and Eugene Volokh were/are Anita Blake fans. The former has a post discussing law in the Blakeiverse among others. The funniest part for me was that I've read the books so often, I sort of knew that Addison v. Clark was a law case, but I'd forgotten it was fictional. The topic was also very timely for me, bc with last week being tv preview week or whatever it's called, and the Sarah Connor Chronicles trailer being released, and more announcements re: the Charlaine Harris tv show, I've been pondering my fantasy Anita Blake tv show a lot and contemplating the underpinnings of her univese. Particularly why they have some of the problems they do. In that reality, they've always had vampires and people have known about them for a long time: one of the books talks about how the revolutionaries liked the guillotine bc it would work on mortals and vampires alike. On the other hand, at the time of the books, there's clearly been an explosion of vampirism and human issues with such.
Of course, after reading that post, I came across his earlier link to a post someone made about Disney making fun of Anita Blake. "vampire astronaut who constantly battles with some werewolf congressman or something." Indeed.
Oh, and they've come out with a companion encyclopedia-ish book to the series: I might think that was cool, except that it reminds me that maybe reading each of the first 10 books a dozen times each is a little obsessive.
All of this is good timing of course bc the new Anita Blake comes out in 11 days, which is just after the exam. Unfortunately, it sounds like it picks up the dangling plot from Incubus Dreams. Excerpts full of spelling and grammar issues here. Apparently Anita has switched from her old Browning Hi-Power to a H&K P200. I'm sure this means something to the gun fans on my list. I just wonder if it has bigger bullets or something.
Sadly, the NYPL hasn't ordered their copies yet, which means I can't reserve it yet. Which is just as well: if libraries had frequent borrower programs, I'd totally have a platinum membership. Which would be nice if I could reserve more than the usual 15 books, since I'm maxed out. albeit bc I have my name down for three books on photographing megafauna that the library seems to have lost.
In the meantime, I highly recommend the Sarah Connor Chronicles trailer: Summer Glau kicks ass!
