My friends have lots of cookbooks - anybody own a copy of Julie Sahni's Classic Indian Cooking? The library lost their copy, so I can't borrow it and make it part of my reviewing. Yes, I still haven't bought an Indian cookbook, even though the latest plan for the apt involves a LOT of bookshelves, bc I'm having trouble picking just one. (And it needs to be just one, bc I get the sense that Thai or Mexican food may be next.)
But back to Sahni... I borrowed her Moghul Microwave book, bc I like moghul food and I like fast. Unfortunately, as I read through the recipes, I realized I can't get over the mental idea that microwaves are not for cooking, only reheating and potatoes and melting. So I just returned it to the library. So far I'm enjoying her Savoring Spices and Herbs book: the introduction alone made me add Zanzibar to my list of places to go when I am in Africa. This thread on ChowHound makes me wonder if I might not like her stuff better than Madhur Jaffrey. But of course I can't check... grr...
