I can't believe I'm composing an email to a vegetarian, Red Sox fan who likes restoring cars and if he's got any online dating inches, is shorter than Churchill. I'm sure OkCupid! knows what it is doing.
I finished my NYR to go on 12 first dates this year. Date #11 was the hedgie, who gets points for taking me to a very good bar with a very fine bartender, but given that we spent most of the date discussing the process of dating and he missed my attempts to change the topic, I'm thinking no. He also disobeyed my instructions when I told him not to call me until Sunday.
Date #12 was very sweet and told me that while he didn't know much about wine, he knew that I liked it and suggested we go to Vintage on the UWS. Like I said, very sweet, but the food options were terrible as were the wines. :( We had a lot to talk about - but then I noticed the glasses weren't nearly as stylish as I recalled and when he admitted he used to be addicted to Everquest, I began to suspect our rapport might be based on mutual nerdosity. I've dated nerds and been called one myself *whistles* but I see it as a side effect of intelligence, not a goal in dating. So.
Amusingly, B2 called my bluff and told me he's coming to dinner Sun night, which will be scary bc I've never cooked with anyone but a friend before (and he hasn't quite moved into that category yet) but fun bc he apparently knows enough to be a sous chef for a day at his friend's restaurant. and of course, I get to obsess over what to cook for the next week, since he's Indian (via England), so it's not like I can impress him simply by tossing cardamom and cumin in the dish. On the plus side, he'll be happy to let me burble about EPL football (and be terribly happy when I call it football) and Nick Hornby and Hugh Grant and my triathlon.
