Good weekend. Ate a lot. I'll write about it on the blog at some point. rsn. really.
Flights were quite pleasant - going out there, we got in an hour early! and we were right on time coming back, which meant I got to watch the sun come up on Idlewild as I rode the AirTrain. Best. Part. of Redeyes. Well, that and seeing my couple :) I'm also surprised the TSA didn't hassle me more, given that I bought my one-way tickets at the last minute. I saw the security screener's eyes get big when she saw my bag, but there was a long (fast moving) line and I think she decided my tin of food wasn't sketchy enough to ruin their efficiency. Also, while I may poke fun at Comrade Lizard's insistence on getting to the airport early, there's something to be said for not stressing about sketchy bag contents.
Twitters you didn't get yesterday bc LJbyTXT doesn't seem to be working for me:
By the end of the day, I found myself thinking about how wonderful it would be to go home and do laundry and make chhole, but I'd prepaid for last night's Explorers Club presentation. And it turned out to be worth it. The guy who filmed the Yucatan bits from Planet Earth: Caves gave a presentation on his work, which of course inspired the same reaction I have to reading Outside magazine: ooh that looks cool! I should do that! Which is of course the wrong response for eleventy-seven reasons, including zomg underwater in a cave is not a place to freak out about being in the dark. So yeah, I'm glad Sam Meacham's taken a lot of pictures, so I could see those cool places. He dives in the area south of Cancun, so there's a lot of Mayan stuff down there. Long time readers of this blog will remember how impressed I was with the Mayan cave I visited in Belize. They've also found Pleistocene elephant-like animal bones and a few human skeletons dating back to 13,600 years ago, which is of course archeologically fascinating. I'm so glad I went.

- "hospitalized for exhaustion" is the dictator equivalent of "shot while trying to escape", right?
- You, market! Stop doing that!
- Good boy! Cookie for you!
- That presentation shoulda been called "How Newspaper Headlines Are Scarier Than Saw V"
