Ok, so the neckline on my shirt was a leetle lower than I'd've liked last night, but hey, I was on a date, right? That said, I really didn't like that Mexican delivery guy leering as I walked home... I was so pissed at his look, I'd've happily punched him off his bike. There's nothing to be done about this, is there - are my choices really to dress like a frump or deal with leers?

This might fall under the category of Things Kate Overthinks. TG for my sister and my chosen family talking me through this stuff.

a) You're exaggerating a bit, aren't you? Since when did amount of cleavage determine frumpiness? [deleted feminist rant here] I'll have you know that you can be incredibly hot without skin-hugging clothes *or* cleavage. ;-)

b) To some extent, you are just going to have to deal with leering and sketchy people. Sometimes the right thing to do is to confront them, and sometimes it's just to move on and not let them get to you. Don't give them the satisfaction.

Thanks. You're so right, as usual.

The real question...

In folks I know, it's not so bad. Random strangers, particularly unattractive ones? Ick!

I'm probably going to look like an ass here, but I'm going to say it anyway. The cut or appearance of the clothes is irrelevant. If you feel like you are dressed attractively it will affect your attitude and you will probably attract leers. If you feel like you are dress unattracively that will also affect your attitude and body language and deflect the lears. This will probably also discourage or repel your date though.

In summary if you felt like it was attractive you could probably attract leers while wearing a burqua.

Not sure how it would make you an ass - but you're probably right.

I chose "dress like a frump" about ten years ago and have never regretted it.

yeah, I usually do that, but I kinda see the argument against too. Esp. on dates :)

Dressing and looking attractive means that you will attract more attention, both welcome and unwelcome. So long as onlookers treat you with the respect and kindness you deserve, this is a good thing on balance.

I'd be upset if I wore a shirt like that & NO ONE leered at me.

You're a hottie. You enjoy being a hottie. Other people enjoy your hotness, even those you don't necessary want to. Your appearance is in the public domain, so he gets to look. I say, Please god Kate, don't stop wearing sexy clothes, the world is a better place with you in a low neck sweater in it. :)

awww...

I did actually think of y'all when I originally put on the shirt. Needed a little pep talk, so I told myself that there was no reason to feel exposed by wearing such a low cut shirt, I've walked around in less ;)

I pretty much proactively death glare at leerers. But no, there is not much to be done about it, as incredibly obnoxious as it is.
