Kate cooks... stuff in big pots
Nov. 2nd, 2007 08:50 amI'm starting to think there's no tasty, healthy way to make pasta. I was excited to find a recipe for pasta with broccoli and turmeric in Julie Sahni's spice cookbook, esp since the last thing I made from the book turned out so brilliantly. As promised, the turmeric turned the broccoli a bright green and the recipe was quick, but whole wheat pasta + broccoli + garlic + turmeric + crushed red pepper and nothing else is really boring. But healthy for runners! *sighs*
I also made a vat of chili on Sat. (I blame all the people on my flist who've been using their slow cookers and/or making vats of soup, etc.) I got nice ingredients at Grand Central Market and used the recipe from Cook's Illustrated, but somehow the end result turned out very greasy, which distracted from any flavor it might have. *sighs*
At least I'm almost done with the pasta eating? Apparently they have fireworks tmw night and I'm thinking of inviting the kids over to watch them from my roof deck, although I might just order from the Italian place across the street, instead of cooking for them. I had a suspicion though that lasagna isn't considered carbo-loading. Bah.
