Not-Africa
Aug. 5th, 2007 05:52 pmI've been so obsessed about Africa lately, I barely noticed I was running a half marathon today. Number pick up was cool: the race shirts look nice, as one would expect from a major race sponsored by Nike. They had a place where they'd put letters on it, like if you want your shirt to say something like, "Go Kate Go," but I couldn't think of anything clever: it was only during the race that it dawned on me that "Pole Pole" or "Hakuna Matata" would've been fitting. And only bc I'm obsessing.
They set up an area for gait analysis, which I was very excited to try. You run on a treadmill while a video camera records you, and an expert watches and shows your running in slow mo and makes comments and suggests Nike shoes. ( what she said ) And of course, Nike shoes have the Nike+ thingy so I can get a new running toy!
( Mile by Mile )
So yeah, I shaved almost 8 minutes off my last half marathon. I've two more to run in the fall, so maybe I'll get sub-2hours :)
My mum offered to see me off, but when I learned we had to be at the corrals by 6:15am (and she lives an hour away), I told her to meet me at the finish, reminding her that traffic would be horrible bc chunks of Seventh, 42nd St., and the West Side Highway would be closed. ( she never listens ) What with one thing and another, I didn't get home until 5:40pm :( but I acquired two awesome bath bombs (apparently the one I like is Youki-Hi) and they dropped off the biggest rollable bag I've ever seen, so instead of collapsing in a puddle, I get to pack. whee.
