There's a chance my MTG shirt might make the NY Times, so I flipped through it yesterday and came across two amusing stories.

A few interesting observations on online dating vs. speed dating. Based on my vast experience, I'd have to agree with Tierney's remarks. Very timely given that I feel I ought to be diving back into the speed dating pool: timeshares are all well and good, but sometimes a gal wants to own, y'know? Too bad I don't have time to date with hiking, running, and climbing plans for the summer.

Not my shirt, but a picture of the only gun range in Manhattan.

Ok, not the Times:

I blame Dubya and his fundamentalist Christians for this poor woman's persecution for wearing latex.

Interesting history of the duel. Every once in a while, I wonder if I ought to be subscribing to New Yorker or the Atlantic Monthly, bc I have this fantasy about Sunday mornings with Barrons or those magazines and bagels with lox.

The Canon 30D arrived last night. My fave photographer convinced me that unlike with computers, with digital cameras it pays to get the latest and greatest rather than 1-step-behind-bleeding-edge, so it boiled down to the Rebel XTi vs. the 30D. which in turn boiled down to ISO 3200 and spot metering vs. $450 and an extra half pound (a 50% increase over my old SLR) of weight. I definitely notice the weight difference - with my 70-200/4.0 it's quite irritating - but ISO 3200 is pretty sweet. It's going to be nice having an SLR again. Still haven't figured out why I'd get the old one fixed. :-/

It's funny how if you start saying, "Well, as a percentage of the cost of the whole trip, such-and-such isn't much at all," you can justify all sorts of things. *coughs* For now though, I'm thinking of taking Mandhari the SLR (yes, I named my SLR body) to the Bronx Zoo sometime in June or July to see about photographing some wild animals. Anyone interested in joining me?

In the meantime, I'll be taking pictures of the wild creatures of the Ivy League at the rugby tourney this weekend. Even though it's taking place a half hour south of Providence, my brother has conned my parents into driving to Cambridge to take him to dinner. There's an uberfantastic restaurant I want to go to in Cambridge/Boston, I just can't remember which. *sighs* I'm rather vexed that the tourney is spread over two days and I can't find any Amtrak trains that make it worthwhile for me to come home after a single day. And that it's supposed to rain both days and rugby is played outdoors. Poor Mandhari!
